Programme aim

This micro-credential is designed to enhance and expand learners' English language skills, focusing on listening, speaking, reading, and writing at the B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). Utilising the Headway 5th Edition Upper-Intermediate Student's Book and supplementary materials, students will engage with contemporary topics and real-life contexts, fostering both language competence and critical thinking. This micro-credential is ideal for individuals who have completed an intermediate level English programme and are eager to advance their proficiency. It caters to a diverse audience, including residents, new immigrants, and professionals seeking to solidify their English skills for academic or workplace contexts.

Structure and content: 

The Upper Intermediate English Micro-credential builds upon students' existing language skills, refining their ability to communicate fluently and effectively in academic, professional, and social contexts. Through structured lessons and thematic learning, students will develop their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills while deepening their understanding of complex linguistic structures and cultural nuances. The micro-credential is delivered using the New Headway Upper Intermediate Student's Book and supplementary materials. Learners will engage with a variety of contemporary topics, including culture, ethics, global issues, and social interactions, while expanding their proficiency in key grammatical and lexical areas.

Programme outcomes:

Upon successful completion of the English for Upper Intermediate micro-credential, students will have developed the English language skills necessary for effective communication and comprehension in academic, professional, and social contexts.

Entry Requirements: Applicants must:

  • Domestic learners

- Applicants must be at least 16 years old to enrol in this micro-credential.

  • International learners

- Applicants must hold a valid visa and provide evidence of appropriate travel and medical insurance. - Learners must be at least 14 years old Placement Test: - All learners, domestic and international, will undertake an English proficiency test prior to class assignment. This ensures learners are placed in the level that best suits their current language skills and learning needs.
