Programme aim

This Micro-credential aims to teach basic English skills, covering listening, speaking, reading, and writing. It aligns with the A2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

The course, titled "English for Elementary Learners" guides learners in grasping commonly used phrases and vocabulary that are most relevant to their daily lives. It enables them to engage in straightforward conversations on familiar subjects, read basic texts, and understand specific, predictable information in everyday materials. Additionally, it helps learners compose brief, uncomplicated notes and messages for immediate needs.

This learning pathway is designed for individuals who have successfully completed the Beginner level or have been assessed as being able to succeed at this level and are eager to advance their English proficiency further. It caters to a diverse audience, including new immigrants, refugees, and residents of English-speaking countries, aiming to achieve a comprehensive and confident command of the English language at the Elementary level.

Structure and content: 

This Micro-credential offers a weekly learning module that integrates the four key language skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Programme outcomes:

1. Demonstrate understanding of simple sentences and commonly used phrases in English concerning immediate and relevant topics, such as basic personal and family details, shopping, local geography, and work.

2. Engage in uncomplicated and regular activities in English that involve straightforward and clear information exchange about familiar and everyday subjects.

3. Read and understand basic texts in English, such as short descriptions, messages, and simple narratives, about familiar and everyday topics.

4. Produce simple written texts in English that communicate basic ideas and information related to personal experiences, daily life, and familiar topics.

Entry Requirements: Applicants must:

  • Domestic learners

Learners must be 16 years old

  • International learners

Learners must be 14 years old

Learners must possess a valid visa and have suitable travel and medical insurance.

Before being assigned to a class, every learner will undergo an English proficiency test, or have been assessed as being able to succeed at this level, to confirm they are placed at the appropriate level for their learning needs.
